Free website updates for life. How does that sound?
Yes. That's what I thought too...

Content Management Systems

Content Managed Websites

What are they?

A Content Managed Website is one that you can edit, add to and generally tweak yourself, without having to pay anyone anything.

It comes with an administration system that gives you full control over every page of your site.

Better yet, the advanced models even let you delegate control over selected pages to members of your organisation and proof read what they've written before its published.

You access this administration system via your internet browser, so you can edit your site even if you're on the road.

If you get a bit ham-fisted and accidentally delete all of your product pages, you can restore older copies of the pages at any time.

Chances are you won't need to do that very often as the administration system is very easy to use. If you're familiar with Word you'll manage this in your sleep.

Why do I want one?

Theres a credit crunch on at the moment and your website is already the most cost effective way of telling people about your business. By keeping it updated and relevant you'll maximise it's effectiveness as a marketing tool.

Try popping a monthly special offer on there, combine that with a monthly email to your clients. Make sure every new service or product is listed and if you get positive feedback from a client, pop that on too.

Has your business got a mention in the local paper? or maybe on the TV News? Are you being talked about on the web? All of this should be on your site somewhere.

Not all of your marketing techniques will bear fruit, but it won't cost you anything to experiment and it can only increase your sales.

What's the catch?

The catch used to be that these were horribly expensive things to set up, but technology has moved on in the last few years and that is no longer the case. I can build you one for £500.

They also used to be a lot more expensive to host. Again these costs have fallen and a CMS site can now be hosted for as low as £25-£50 per year.

Really, the only catch is that you'll end up writing more copy for your website. You may want to invest in a new keyboard.
